Although it may seem similar to the present-day rhino, the Megacerops was surprisingly not closely related. The Megacerops was a Brontotheres, or Thunder Beast. The name Megacerops literally means Large Horned Face. The Megacerops lived during the Eocene Period.
Paleontologists expect that the horns of the Megacerops were no used for battle, rather were made up of soft, spongy bone, and were made for looks more than anything.
